The Cosmos Garden

Gardens are, by nature, temporary. They bloom, fade and return again in altered form, reminding us that beauty is never meant to be permanent, only experienced. The Cosmos lives this truth gracefully, offering its color to the wind, its seed to the next generation, and its brief life to the eyes that take in their beauty. Watching my own garden and especially my Cosmos garden grow and change by the day and eventually fade has been a daily reminder of this.

Each of these Polaroids was made with a triple exposures on expired film, a material that carries its own passage of time. The chemistry falters, colors drift, and what remains is a softened echo, the way memory itself works.The unpredictability of the film mirrors the fleeting nature of the flowers; both are touched by chance, by weather, by the momentary tilt of light.

The imperfect emulsions, ghosted edges, and sun-washed tones give these images a sense of nostalgia, as though they were found in an old drawer, pressed between the pages of summer. In using a medium that resists control, I let the materials collaborate with the moment, allowing time to leave its own fingerprints. In this way, the Polaroid becomes both a document and a metaphor, a keepsake of the impermanent, a visual whisper of what cannot last but must still be cherished. Just as the garden asks us to return year after year, knowing nothing we plant will stay the same, so do these photographs invite us to love both what is, and what is passing.
