PAINT
A TWO ARTIST EXHIBITION AT THE STABLES GALLERY
July 1-7, 2006 The Stables Gallery will open the month with a week long exhibition July 1-7. Entitled “Paint,” the exhibit will feature the photography of Jari Poulin and the work of Mexican painter, Deimoz.
Due to Jari Poulin’s efforts, this will be the first showing in the United States of the work of Deimoz. He is a Chilean born Mexican, who lives and paints in the small fishing village of Yelapa. Deimoz studied art at the old and venerable art school, Academia Esmeralda, in Mexico City.
He has exhibited his work in Mexico City at Santos Luminosos, Galleria Escondida, Galleria El Gato, and the Galleria Los Cisnes, as well as a have dozen other galleries and hotels in Puerto Vallarta and Yelapa, Mexico.
Jari, who lived in Yelapa in 2005, met Deimoz and became determined to bring his work to the US. “Deimoz has a prolific imagination and his paintings reflect his dreams, both waking and sleeping. His paintings are both simple and complex. I never tire of looking at them. They are generated from both his waking and sleeping dreams.”
In January of this year, Jari returned to Yelapa to hand pick 82 paintings to bring to the US. Twenty-five of these paintings will be on display at the Stables Gallery.
Jari’s photography exhibit will include work from two recent series of abstract photos that take a zoomed in look at a variety of surfaces, textures and the variations of color that exist on them. She describes her work as resembling abstract expressionism and enjoys the thought of looking at her photographs as paintings.
“When I am composing a frame, I am looking for an image that evokes a spirit, temerity, interesting juxtapositions of color and a composition that can hold my interest. In this series I have explored the effect of weathered exterior paints on textured surfaces.” She describes the series as extremely colorful, yet Zen-like in its simplicity.
The Stables Gallery is managed by the Taos Center for the Arts and is located behind Café Rennato at 133 Paseo del Pueblo Norte.
The exhibit will be open from 11:00-7:30 daily throughout the week of July 1-7. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, July 1 from 5:30-7:30. Jari will be present throughout the run of the exhibit.
